The Getaway in Shenandoah is a 20 acre plot of land with small cabins scattered about. The cabin (Getaway House) is a thoughtfully designed, cozy space, with all the essentials for a relaxing weekend in the woods. I used to go camping with friends often when I was younger and hadn't thought about a mini adventure vacation in well over a decade - And then I saw the Getaway House on Instagram. I gotta say, Instagram is the perfect platform to advertise. If it wasn't for the GH ad, I wouldn't have found this little haven just two hours from DC. When we pulled into our personal camping space, we were excited about the setup AND we hadn't even seen inside the cabin yet. First step to the best camping trip is to pour a glass of wine or crack open a beer. Then I walked around the small site and took photos (for the blog). When booking your Getaway House, you can include your dog for a small fee. Upon arrival we noticed there was a long leash attached to the picnic table. We attached it to Teddy's harness and let him roam. He's never been without a short leash and kept looking back to make sure it was ok for him to explore - so cute! The leash was just long enough for him to wander the perimeter of the site. This was a nice amenity for our little bear. The Getaway House is perfect. A little smaller than I expected from online photos, but the innovative design is everything you need for a short getaway. There's a small table with a bench/step along one side and chair at the other. The bench doubles as a step to the elevated queen size bed. This bed was SO comfortable. There's a small kitchen area, with a two burner stove, mini fridge, sink and shelf with provisions and dishes. The provisions are for purchase. Our host was kind and left s'mores for the adults and doggy s'mores for Teddy. There was also dog dishes. I appreciate the amenities for our Teddy Bear. The bathroom is super small, but clean and has everything you need. You gotta squish by the toilet to close the door and get to the shower, but you are camping, so be happy you have a hot shower. On that note, I kinda drained the hot water, but it was replenished in less than an hour. The shower is tiny, but clean (very important) and featured Pharmacopia shampoo, conditioner and body wash. There's a fan in the bathroom and you can open the small window for ventilation. Our camping space was located on a small hill, so we were looking down in to the woods. The full-sized window located next to the bed and overlooking the woods was mine and Teddy's favorite feature. You can bring down the blinds at night for more privacy, but we opted for no window coverings, so we could see the sun come up. I was hoping Teddy would see an animal, even a squirrel would do, but no luck this time. I read on Instagram that campers had deer outside their window - Which is nice, as long as you're inside! We only spent one night at the Getaway House and I was bummed that I didn't get lay by the window all day (check-out is at 11:00 am). Next time I "getaway", Imma lay there all afternoon and relax. I was also terrified that I would look out the window at night and someone or thing would be looking back at me. It's beyond dark and a little scary. I refused to hang by the fire in the dark. I was nervous that we wouldn't see our attacker in time - AHS just started and takes place at a murderous camp in the 1980's. The small area surrounding the cabin is perfect. There's a picnic table, two Muskoka chairs, logs to place your beverage and a firepit and grill grate. There's also a container containing wood and a few startup logs. The wood is for purchase and all provisions will be charged to your credit card sometime later. We started our fire late and didn't give it the attention required to heat up the grill grate. Our hamburgers took forever and weren't very good. Camping 101 and we botched it. The menu will be better next time and I'm definitely going with hotdogs on the grill - They're super easy. We camped in October and it was really cold in the morning. This would be a great time to get the fire going. Next time we're gonna start the fire in the am and relax by the flames during the day. We'll probably retire early and unwind in the cozy bed when it gets dark. There are many things to do in the area, but we just wanna relax. Maybe next time, we'll take a stroll through the outpost, but I'm not the adventurous type, so there will be minimal activity. Teddy had the best time. This dog is living his best life - always in the car, going on trips and being spoiled the entire time. I pre-made bacon, scrambled eggs and chicken for him. Spoiled! He laid horizontal across the bed and my husband laid diagonal - I had the worst sleep squished between them. AND Teddy didn't wanna get out of the bed in the morning. He's a lazy camper. We stayed at the Getaway House for one night to see if we'd like it AND we're obsessed. We've already booked more weekends. It's camping in a small, rustic cabin and is the perfect mini vacation. You can sit by the fire and eat at the picnic table or cook inside and enjoy the view. I'm branding this vacation in the wilderness "glamping". This innovative camping style is brilliant. Just two hours from the city and you're sleeping in a tiny, simple cabin in the woods. It's perfect for people who just want to relax. Too often we (you're also guilty) miss out on amazing experiences, cause we're on our phone or trying to "capture" the moment. I recommend you shut off your phone and place it in the cell phone lockbox. Get out your camera and take photos the "old fashion" way. Embrace the peace and quiet, cause soon you'll be back at work and counting down the days till your next getaway.
..TOODLES 2018. It was a rough one emotionally, but my beauty exploration and fashion addiction survived the madness and remained strong and exciting! I'm heading into 2019 with a new attitude towards health and beauty. My shoe and handbag addiction will probably continue to be ridiculous (by some standards), but 2018 has taught me to make changes, embrace new brands and get creative with my style and makeup. My biggest obsession is sunglasses. I purchased too many Chloé sunglasses this year! MIU MIU sunnies recently took over my looks, but Chloé reigns supreme on my sunnies shelf. I just snagged these MIU MIU star embossed sunglasses and Swarovski crystal embellished sunglasses and glasses chain at Holt Renfrew in Toronto. LOVE! I'll be seeing stars in 2019! My personal style remains the same - chic joggers and sock-style boots with printed t-shirts and sweatshirts. My favorite clothing brands are 3.1 Phillip Lim, Fenty X Puma, Tularosa, GRLFRND, Mother, Spell & The Gypsy Collective, For Love & Lemons, Monrow sweatpants , Karl Lagerfeld and Fiorucci (t-shirts and sweatshirts) and Nation LTD (to name a few). My infatuation with designer shoes and handbags remains expensive! Louis Vuitton handbags are still taking over my collection. I finally found myself an LV sales representative in New York and she's fabulous. Some LV bags are impossible to get (unless you have a rep). She snagged me a Summer Trunk tote and Time Trunk Alma handbag as soon as they hit the sales floor. She's my handbag fairy! After a five year hiatus, Gucci has made a comeback in my collection. My husband tracked down a Gucci bag I had been coveting for months and gave it to me for our 10 year anniversary. Best gift a girl could get! AND, of course, I'm still a Chloé girl and LOVE Chloé handbags. I LOVE BOOTS! I'm still rocking Fendi Rockoko and Yeezy sock-style boots. I purchased too many Adidas sneakers in 2018, got some Chloé boots and a new pair of Fendi fur slides (possibly the best purchase of 2018). I'm looking forward to summer, so I can strut around in my mew Fendi slides. Another year gone and while I spent most of my time shopping and exploring new beauty products, my go-to brands remain the same. For anti-aging, Neocutis is my favorite. I got a mini fridge for Christmas and am keeping my Neocutis products in there. Applying cold eye and face creams is new to me and I love it! AND, I still love Bobbi Brown Cosmetics Hydrating Face Cream (great for calming rosacea) and Extra Eye Repair Cream. My favorite make-up brands list has changed a little. Benefit Cosmetics, Too Faced, Dior and beautyblender reign supreme in my Cosmocube. Oh and there's a few KKW Beauty products in there too - love the brushes. My long-time favorites, Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier are still taking up some real estate in the cube. I still get IPL (Intense Pulsed Light Treatment) and Clear + Brilliant laser Treatment. These two combined leave my skin looking fresh, vibrant and reduce the appearance of my rosacea. They are painful and expensive, but worth it. I'm also still doing botox. I've had a few botched jobs and am a little turned off, but I think it's about finding the right dermatologist.. My hair is finally back to normal. I suffered from botched hair for two years and it was a struggle. The silver lining is that I tried too many hair care products and shared my thoughts on b.a.gorgie.com. I hope my product reviews helped a few of you. Surprisingly, I introduced a new shampoo and conditioner to the routine in 2018. My long-time favorite Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil shampoo and conditioner still have a permanent spot in the shower, but now I'm alternating with Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance shampoo and No. 5 Bond Maintenance conditioner. This stuff is amazing!
I tried Coolsculpting and got "minimal results". Highly disappointing. After waiting four months for maximum results and feeling like I spent too much money and wasted my time, I decided to start working out (there are no shortcuts). I also changed my eating habits. I'm eating healthier and smaller portions. I'm proud to say, I've lost 14 lbs. YUP! It was a slow process (took an entire year)! I have another 6 lbs to go and am hoping to get a MIRROR Home Gym in the 2019. HINT HINT.. I'm also considering the new fat reducing procedure Vanquish. I'll let ya know how it goes. My favorite body wash and creams are Sol de Janeiro and Aveeno (for those sensitive days). The caramel-pistachio scent of Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum body cream, Brazilian Crush body mist and Brazilian 4 Play moisturizing shower cream-gel are delicious! This cosmetic brand has made a few appearances on the blog and still reigns supreme. That's my favorite cosmetics, procedures, fashion brands and style diary for 2018. I'm still a cosmetic junkie and am obsessed with shoes and handbags. I have a few trips in 2019 and am already planning my outfits..
The SPHYNX Portable Razor is great for on-the-go touchups. I'm not sure this innovative shaving device would work for an all-over shave, but the moisturizing shave bar and single blade allow you to shave missed spots with ease. This portable razor is really unique. The SPHYNX contains a tiny refillable water spray bottle, a moisturizing pre-shave bar and two single blade cartridges. Simply pop the cap off, turn the dial to your desired tool and shave away unwanted hair. The SPHYNX 3 in 1 Portable Razor Refill Pack contains four single blade cartridges and one pre-shave bar. The portable razor retails for $15 and the refill pack for $8 - not bad! You can purchase both at revolve.com. I like the little spray bottle. It's super tiny - about 1" X 1" and slides in and out of the portable shaving device easily. I'm sure I can find other uses for this little bottle. It doesn't hold very much water, but the SPHYNX is meant for touch-ups, so you don't need much. The moisturizing shave bar is infused with Shea Butter, Coconut Oil and Cocoa Butter. The scent is super-strong! Kinda reminds me of mens bar of soap - maybe Irish Spring? The masculine scented pre-shave bar and single blade cartridge are the perfect facial touch-up razor for men. Why is it that men always miss one spot? Spray a little water, smooth the shave bar along your skin and remove unwanted hair. You do not need to rinse after shaving. Surprisingly, the pre-shave bar doesn't irritate my skin AND everything irritates me (body and mind).
The single blade can manage touch-ups with ease, but I wouldn't use this blade all over. I use Venus Embrace cartridges daily. They have five blades and a ribbon of moisture. Once you've used this razor style, anything else pales in comparison. BUT, the SPHNYX is a great on-the-go, missed a spot solution. The innovative device is made of plastic and can be easily cleaned. The SPHYNX portable razor doesn't weigh much and is small enough to throw in your tote or gym bag. The dial is easy to turn and while you can watch the different tools turning, there is also embossed pics on the dial. The device has small holes along the sides, so the pre-shave bar and razor dry quickly and remain fresh. I like that! This portable razor would make a great gift. It's also available in turquoise, pink and purple.
The universally flattering pink is on-trend for Fall 2015. Whether it be bright pink, fuchsia, pale pink, Barbie pink or pinkish peachy, seems like the entire pink spectrum is having a moment in fashion. Not all pink shades work for every skin tone, so find your pink, one that works with you and not against you - for pale skin tones opt for a brighter pink, cool tones for black hair and warm for blonde. Pair pale pink with mint green, rose with teal and fuchsia with orange. One accent color is enough - you don't want to look like a rainbow! Embrace the trend and wear a full pink ensemble, like Tibi's blush pink skirt and top (above). If you're hesitant to don a pink look, then opt for a pink accessory - sunglasses and shoes are a subtle way to showcase your love for color. Fall's feminine pink shades are refreshing to a usually dark-toned season in fashion. Much of my closet is pink and I'm thrilled to see shades of pink in many Fall 2015 collections.
