Bye Bye Redness

July 26, 2019

This one goes out to all of you suffering from angry red face! Whatever the cause, Rosacea is hard to manage and flare-ups can be unpredictable. I use three topical medications and a variety of facial serums, but my irritable skin flares up on the daily.

Yeah, you're should avoid food, beverages, products snd environments that trigger a flushed face, BUT that would leave you miserable. Spicy food, cheese and wine are three of my favorite things to eat and drink AND I refuse to give them up in an effort to combat my flushed skin. Stress is also a huge factor, but that one's unavoidable.

I do however have a lineup of anti-redness products to mask the "I've had too much wine" look. These redness correctors will change your life..

Many dermatologist stock Colorescience products - that's sayin' something about this better skin brand. All of the products have SPF to combat skincare battles as a result of sun exposure, before they start. Colorescience All Calm provides SPF 50 sun protection. LOVE that!

Colorescience All Calm Clinical Redness Corrector is a new product in my skincare lineup. The primer-like product calms your skin while combatting redness. It has a similar texture to Colorescience Perfectors - a silky, thick facial product that glides on nicely and neutralizes your skin tone. It is however only available in one shade that may be light on tanned skin or darker skin tones.

I have been using Colorescience products since 2014 and while I've updated my go-to product list many times over the years, Colorescience Perfectors are still at the top.

These primers give you a natural, even tone, leaving no trace of caked on makeup (like foundation often appears). These perfectors blend perfectly (hence the name I suppose), minimize the look of your pores, blur wrinkles, and enhances your complexion. The natural result is far better than using foundation. People often compliment my skin and asked what foundation I wear - I don't!

The texture is soft and silky. It is a bit thick, but when applied over a nourished face, neck and décolletage, it absorbs quickly and enhances your skin dramatically.

I use the Calming Perfector during cold seasons and blend it with Bronzing Perfector during the summer for a sun kissed look. The Brightening Perfector is great for combatting redness and illuminating your skin. Don't be afraid of the pale yellow tone - it will transform your skin and brighten your complexion. I promise.

I have 'officially' (nothing I declare is really official) branded It Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness Color-Correcting cream the 'anti-redness warpaint'. If you have Rosacea or hyper pigmentation, you need this.

Bye Bye Redness is the ultimate anti-redness product. It's kinda like a foundation, primer and cream in one. It is thick, has a silky texture and gives you super full-coverage. This product is smooth, goes on like a primer (similar to Colorscience primers), has a green tint (to mask redness) and gives you a matte finish.

Apply to your cheeks, nose and forehead and blend outwards. A little goes a long way. Beware - this stuff will stain your clothes, so be careful when applying.

Bye Bye Redness Color-Correcting cream is available in three shades - Transforming Porcelain Beige, Transforming Neutral Beige and Transforming Light Beige. If you can't decide what shade to purchase, go with the neutral.

The mint green tint of Laura Mercier Shine Control Pressed Setting Powder tones down redness. The 'Shine Control Complex' gives you a shine-free, fresh, matte finish - a much-needed addition to my cosmetic bag for on-the-go touchups.

I wouldn't recommend this translucent powder for tanned or darker skin tones. Apply this powder to combat redness and reduce shine - it's not an all-over powder.

Are You Too Faced?

June 24, 2019

Too Faced is one of my favorite cosmetic brands. The vast lineup includes skin prep and setting products, along with high-quality and innovative makeup. Oh and the scents are amazing!

Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme (not pictured here), is the ultimate lip plumper and probably my most-valued makeup product. Your lips become significantly fuller and flushed with color in minutes. Since purchasing my first Too Faced lip balm in 2014, this brand has taken over my CosmoCube.

The new Too Faced Dew You lineup is part of the Tutti Fruity Collection and is comprised of four products - Dew You primer, foundation, setting powder and setting spray.

The watermelon and cumber scent of Dew You products is delicious. I'm not a big fan of scented facial products (especially floral scents), but LOVE this one. It's sweet and refreshing.

Dew You Fresh Glow Luminous Face Primer can be worn alone for a dewy look, under makeup for a boost in luminosity and over makeup for a highlighted look. I prefer the strobing effect over the full-face dewy look. The all-over glow is a bit too shinny for me.

The gel-cream texture is non-sticky, applies nicely and soaks into your skin seamlessly. This face primer creates the perfect canvas for soft-focus luminosity. It is high-shine, so apply sparingly. I purchased the Radiant Pearl. The micro sparkles have a pink-tone and transfer easily (be careful putting on white tops).

The Too Faced Dew You Fresh Glow Translucent Setting Powder is a brightening setting powder. Apply to areas you want a little extra glow - I like to sweep the powder over my under eye concealer and across my nose and cheeks. The micro illuminating pearls reflect the light and blur imperfections.

Dew You Fresh Glow Translucent Setting Powder is available in three versatile shades - Radiant Pearl (pale skin), Radiant Nude (sun-kissed skin) and Radiant Caramel (darker skin tones). I purchased the Radiant Pearl and Radiant Nude. The Radiant Pearl is transparent, while the Radiant Nude has a slight bronzing quality.

The packaging is brilliant. Under the pink and gold, watermelon printed twist cover is a flip-top with a mesh layer to control the amount of powder you shake through. This mesh also allows you to rub your brush along it and remove access powder. This innovative design ensures you won't waste powder.

This setting powder is light-weight, brightens your complexion and smells amazing! It is is infused with soothing cucumber extract and has the Dew You signature watermelon and cucumber scent. Delicious!

Another deliciously scented Too Faced product - It's Bananas Setting Powder from the Tutti Fruity Collection. This matte yellow powder blurs imperfection and brightens your complexion.

The yellow-tone neutralizes redness and combats under eye circles. The light-weight powder is perfect for setting concealer. This pressed, setting powder can also be applied to high points on the face for a matte highlighter. The It's Bananas Setting Powder is cute and smells yummy.

The Too Faced Peaches and Cream Collection is one of my favorites. I purchased the Peach Mega Moisture Lip Balm and then had to have the Peach Lip Scrub. This exfoliating lip scrub is gentle and effective. Your lips will feel soft and rejuvenated. The peaches and cream scent is sweet and yummy!

If you want a pouty look, buff your lips first, get the circulation flowing, apply a lip balm and then color. If you want super-plumped lips, purchase the Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme. This stuff reigns supreme!

Too Faced has a Hangover Collection - LOVE that! The collection consisted of a primer and setting spray, but is expanding and will include an AM and PM facial moisturizer - Can't wait.

Too Faced Hangover 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer and Setting Spray hydrates and brightens. The weightless formula is coconut water-infused  and has a subtle coconut scent. You can apply this spray as a primer, setting spray and a mid-day refresher. It soaks into the skin nicely and give you a smooth canvas. LOVE!

The Too Faced Dew You lineup and Hangover Collection are a must-have this summer. All of these Too Faced products combined will leave your skin feeling hydrated, boost luminosity, prime and set your makeup and  treat your lips for the perfect pouty look.

Brightening, Setting, Retouching..

November 09, 2016

Brightening, Setting, Retouching.. And this is after you've applied foundation, concealer, bronzer, blush.. As I age, my multitude of skin issues are more apparent and that means more product. Often, too much has the adverse effect and you end up looking like a art project gone wrong, but setting powders is a necessary step to perfect makeup.

After applying topical medication (rosacea), serums, moisturizer, corrective creams, and sometimes foundation, my face is rather shiny. Thanks to my 'angry', combination skin, I'm having to deal with an oily complexion too. Bobbi Brown White Skin Correcting Powder is meant to 'brighten and illuminate' fair skin tones, but I use it to slightly mattify my look. It's the last step in my makeup routine, but if I'm having one of those 'dry' days, the powder will magnify my dehydrated skin. Decisions - oily or flakey?

I apply Bobbi Brown Skin Correcting Powder in peach to add a little warmth to my complexion. Focusing my cheeks, this subtle shade looks great on my super-fair skin. I don't feel like either of these retouching powders are drastically enhancing my makeup, but Bobbi Brown is about subtlety!

Move over BB, there's newbies in the Cosmocube! Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder is like magic fairy dust. The transparent powder is formulated with light-reflecting micronized pigments that illuminate your under eye area while setting your concealer. Apply concealer, blend with a damp beautyblender, be sure there's no creasing, dab your damp makeup sponge into the powder and lightly pat it onto your under eye area. Too much is ok - it will settle and you can sweep off the excess product in a few. AMAZING results! My concealer is set, there's little-to-no creasing and my under eye area appears significantly brighter. LOVE!

The mint green tint of Laura Mercier Shine Control Pressed Setting Powder tones down redness (I NEED THAT) while reducing shine. The 'Shine Control Complex' gives you a shine-free, fresh, mate finish - a much-needed addition to my cosmetic bag for on-the-go touchups. While we're on the topic of green - Sephora Collection Bright Future Color Correctors are super light and great for combating discoloration, blemishes.. I use the green shade to neutralize the redness on my nose. The formula is lightweight and blends nicely.

Highlighting Powder

October 05, 2016

Six months ago, I was anti-sparkle, but since discovering the benefits of highlighting my face, I'm officially addicted. My highlighting products are growing faster than anything else in my CosmoCube (best makeup organizer).

After applying foundation, I apply Benefit Watt's Up! Cream-to-Powder Highlighter down the bridge of my nose, on my cheekbones, cupid's bow (to make your lips appear bigger) and blend with a damp beautyblender and a little Farsali Rose Gold Elixir. Then I apply setting powder, blush, maybe bronzer and all-over illuminating powder. All those powders on top of the Watt's Up! Cream-to-Powder Highlighter will lessen the illuminating effect and using a damp (oily) sponge to apply more is a no-no for me (I'm oily enough and gotta hold back on the Elixir). In enters my new favorite cosmetic - highlighting 'powder'.

Of course, I opted for my favorite cosmetic brand! The Bobbi Brown Highlighting Powder in Pink Glow is perfect for a little extra light-reflective glow. The pink highlights are nice on pale skin tones and the effect is subtle (if applied lightly). I use the Sephora Pro Fan Brush #65 to little dust the highlighter on my check bones. For more precise application on my nose and cupid's bow, I use the Bobbi Brown Eye Sweep brush - it's more dense and allows you to apply more product. If you want a high-impact glow, apply a little Farsali Rose Gold Elixir to your cheekbones, bridge of your nose and cupids bow, then lightly apply Bobbi Brown Highlighting Powder - super glow! I LOVE this highlighting powder.

Illuminate All Over

June 15, 2016
I'm not a fan of sparkles on my face, but the illuminating trend has brands producing barely-there 'micro sparkles', and I'm loving the effect. In reality, there not sparkles per say, but rather, light-reflective powders - still look like sparkles to me! My favorite is Bobbi Brown Nude Finish Illuminating Powder. It's super subtle, and gives a natural glow. The pearlescent pigments of the correcting powder illuminate your skin, while setting your makeup. This is an 'apply all over' product and a must-have this summer.
