The Weathered Look

December 14, 2015
Spring/Summer 2015 designer collections brought destroyed denim to the forefront. While these styles were extreme and unlikely to take over denim fashion, the more subtle, 'mainstream' weathered look continues to evolve into Fall/Winter. Distressed denim, frayed hems and raw cuts are on trend this season. Sitting just around your ankle, skinnies, boyfriend jeans, and straight cuts with frayed hems are easy going and laid-back. Paired with an oversized sweater, sneakers or booties, distressed denim is one of my favorite trends this year. Of course, you can trim your favorite jeans to create this raw edge look yourself, but without proper treatment the hem will continue to fray. Prefab versions most likely have stitching or treatments to keep the look consistent over the years. Once considered punk or just simply 'old jeans', rips, tears, raw edges and even patches are all trending denim looks for Fall/Winter.

Spring - Sans Skinnies

April 07, 2015
The never-ending skinny jean trend has been lingering around far too long and lets face it, they're not the most flattering jean. There is an array of denim styles to choose from this season; the cropped boyfriend jean for a loose fitting casual look, the oh so chic flare jean (makes everyone look better, taller and skinner) and the denim track pant (my favorite). It's time to retire your skinnies - think of it like a 21-day cleanse - from skinny jeans! Push your skinnies far into the back of your closet and opt for a modern denim style that's comfy and flatters your figure.

Trend Inspiration - Denim

January 21, 2015

The denim midi skirt has secured a spot as one of the top denim trends of 2015. The 70's inspired midi skirt seen on many runways for pre-fall went from below the knee, all the way down to the floor. The skirt was shown with buttons, seams, in many shades and in a variety of silhouettes.

How to wear this trend:

Wear a v-neck cashmere sweater (opt for a feminine, pastel color) tucked into your denim pencil skirt. Pointed-toe pumps in nude suede and a structured top-handle handbag. Pictured here: (NET-A-PORTER) Tibi Denim Midi Skirt and J. Crew Cashmere Sweater.

For a flirty look, opt for a fluted silhouette denim midi skirt, paired with a fitted sweatshirt in neutral colors. Pointed-toe pumps and a structured tote. Pictured here: (NET-A-PORTER) Michael Kors Fluted Denim Skirt and Phillip Lim Sweatshirt.

A patchwork denim midi skirt with a frayed hem is a statement on it's own, so keep it simple on top with a tucked-in gray t-shirt. Accessorize with a cross body bag in pale rose or peach. Pictured here: (NET-A-PORTER) Saint Laurent Patchwork Denim Midi Skirt and Rag & Bone T-shirt.

Alexa Chung for AG

January 15, 2015

The much anticipated collection by Alexa Chung for Adriano Goldschmied is now available on-line at NET-A-PORTER, Matchesfashion and Mytheresa. The 20 piece collection will be available in stores on January 20th. British model and fashion icon Alexa Chung has collaborated with denim brand AG to create a casual collection with a 60's vibe of denim jeans (of course), short dresses, overalls and a mini skirt, as well as sweaters and t-shirts. Alexa Chung has a unique personal style coveted by many, including myself! I've been checking on-line daily for additional items to become available (it's selling out faster than I search). I have to have the denim shirtdress and denim skirt overall.. wish me luck.

The collection will be available at Adriano Goldschmied, Anthropologie, major department stores; Bloomingdales, SAKS, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman. It will also be available on-line at Revolve, Stylebop, Mytheresa and Avenue 32.
