Luxury Fashion For Less: Gucci

October 08, 2015
The Fall 2015 Gucci girl has a nonchalant attitude toward fashion and still gets all the attention! Gucci makes geek street fashion chic and possibly the most fun to mimic this season. The muted color palette and 70's inspired vibe is eclectic and easy-going. I posted about Zara's 'Gucci inspired' collection a while back - fast fashion stores are practically replicating the Gucci style and producing trendy, inexpensive items. Pictured here are apparel and accessories from Mango and Zara.

Luxury Fashion For Less: Burberry Prorsum

October 06, 2015

The Burberry Prorsum Fall 2015 collection, 'Patchwork, Pattern and Prints' showcased 70's inspired chic bohemian style. Floral and fringe dominated the runway and each look was as inspiring as the last. The suede fringe cape was my favorite. The elderberry colored cape retails for €7,250! You can buy a similar style at Mango in cognac for €99,99! This neutral color would look great paired with dark denim and bordeaux over-the-knee boots.

The Burberry Prorsum show always introduces a new style of handbag featured in that seasons favorite colors and embellishments. The Fall 2015 collection showcased the 'Bucket Bag' in two sizes, prints, suede and of course fringed. Pictured here is a dark green fringed suede bag by Mango. Bucket shaped, jewel tone and fringed - embodies everything necessary to pull off a Burberry Prorsum inspired look.

Luxury Fashion For Less: Chloé

October 05, 2015

My favorite collection this season is without a doubt Chloé. Fleetwood Mac, corduroy, shag and ponchos - the Chloé girl is feminine, carefree and fashionable.

I was beyond excited when I walked into Mango and realized I could re-create many Chloé Fall 2015 looks for a reasonable price. Shopping spree! I got to thinking, I'm gonna browse fast-fashion stores and share my findings with you. From the runway to your closet, this week I am focused on bringing you trendy looks for a fraction of the cost. Stay tuned..

Dried Herb

October 01, 2015

These green hues were once referred to as army or olive green and mostly used in military-inspired collections or chic safari attire. A new name and applied to all facets of fashion - 'dried herb' hues are a staple for Fall 2015. These earthy tones are neutral and should be paired with similarly warm colors. For a sophisticated look, substitute black and don chic attire in dried herb hues. Wear a sheer green top with tailored pants in a slightly darker shade, or layer dried herb greens atop dark blue and cream - dark blue denim flares, tan shoes, a cream-colored silk blouse and green cape - perfection! Feeling casual, go military-style in a modern way by paring cargo pants and a sheer sweater. Natural colored fur (preferably faux) compliments warm green tones and transforms your look from casual to sophisticated and chic.

The Micro Bag

September 25, 2015

The micro bag is having a macro moment this season. Just big enough to hold your essentials, these bags make a cute statement. Channel your seventies vibe in this Chloé bag or cuddle up to this miniature furry bag by Fendi. Elevate your look and hang a Fendi micro "peekaboo' bag on the handle of a larger tote - kinda like a bag charm. Love this trend!

..and back to black

September 23, 2015

It was Carolyn Stanbury (Ladies of London) that inspired my transition from long black hair to a blonde bob. Although my amazing hairstylist was eager to give me a new look and willing to put in the time, I'm sure he thought I was having a 'life crisis'! After a lengthy chat about color choices and what to expect, it began..

Cutting my hair was the easy part and I still don a Carolyn Stanbury bob. The bleaching process was terrifying. It didn't hurt, but watching my hair turn bright orange triggered regret. After two bleaching sessions, a beautiful red color application and a much needed treatment, I was surprised at the results. A few days later, I went back for more. Going forward it would be regular visits to the salon for blond highlights. After the first visit my hair was brown with natural blonde highlights. I was 80% there!

I regret to say I missed my black hair and didn't feel like myself anymore, so I went back to black. I kinda wish I had gone all the way and then determined whether or not the color was for me, but I do love my signature black hair. The lesson here - be sure you want a drastic hair transformation before investing days at the salon and a ridiculous amount of money! I would've liked to post the full-process from black to blonde and pondered posting this video, but figured why not share my experience.

Over-the-knee & Oversized

September 21, 2015

Oversized capes and ponchos atop over-the-knee boots are the perfect pairings for Fall. Showcased in Fall 2015 runway shows: Chloé, Burberry, Thakoon and more - capes and ponchos look effortlessly chic. Opt for an oversized poncho atop fitted pants and over-the-knee boots, or a shorter hem cape paired with flared pants and a chunky heel. A heavy knitted poncho is an essential layer for Fall, both cozy and on-trend. Over-the-knee boots can be tricky (sometimes garish), but paired with long, oversized knits and tights or fitted pants look classy and chic. If you only try a few trends this season, let it be a cape or poncho and over-the-knee boots.

The Bodysuit

September 14, 2015

I don't remember how old I was the last time I wore a bodysuit, but it was in the nineties and I had a drawer full of them. I suddenly feel old! Bodysuits have kinda lingered in the background over the years - I purchased a Wolford bodysuit a few years ago and felt the body-hugging fit was unflattering and showing off all my imperfections (I returned it). Thankfully the 'cropped top' trend forced me to maintained a flat stomach and bodysuits are an option again. I love a turtleneck bodysuit paired with high-waisted flares or cropped trousers (high-waisted is a must). One of my favorite looks for Fall is my Tibi stretch-jersey turtleneck bodysuit and cropped stretch-jersey wide-leg pants in dark grenache - I am a bit obsessed with monochromatic looks. Channeling the seventies this season, opt for a simple turtleneck design in neutral shades paired with corduroy or denim flares and a thick heel. Visit NET-A-PORTER and browse Donna Karan NY, Wolford and Body Editions for simple and unexpected bodysuit designs.
