Steam Balm & Finger Balls

February 05, 2018

Blackheads are considered a mild form of acne caused by clogged hair follicles. The sebum (oil) that is produced in the hair follicle, combined with dead skin cells, pushes to the surface creating a tiny bump. Once the open hair folicle, oil and dead skin cells reach air, it oxidizes and turns black. You have approximately five million hair follicles on your body and hundreds of thousands on your face. The chances that you are going to experience blackheads is super high.

Other than expensive in-office treatments, I have yet to find an at-home solution to combat blackheads. I have very small blackheads and nothing works for me. I exfoliate and that helps a bit. I also use nose strips once and while - they pull out some of the impurities, but nothing miraculous.

In addition to the extensive clothing and accessories selection, my favorite online shop, Revolve, has a new'ish' beauty department. Many of the products are similar to Sephora, but there are also unique cosmetics that I've never seen or heard of. The Tomymoly Egg Pore Blackhead Steam Balm & Corsx Blackhead Silk Finger Ball are two products I had to try..

The self-heating Egg Pore Blackhead Steam Balm by Tonymoly feels nice and relaxing. The product contains charcoal to remove impurities and provides antibacterial qualities. It also contains sea salt to remove residue and egg yolk to moisturize your skin.

Apply a little to the desired area and gently massage for 3-5 minutes. Yeah, FIVE minutes! It's a bit long, but the self-heating quality makes you feel like something is happening.. Once the product turns opaque white, rinse with warm water. After what felt like forever massaging the product onto my skin, I rinsed and NOTHING! My tiny blackheads were still there and my skin didn't appear any different. Hmm.. I guess my expectations were a little too high?

Product scents are a big deciding factor for me and the scent of this steam balm is too strong. It's floral-like, but kind of citrus? I can't explain it, but I can tell you it's not nice. AND you're applying this product to your face, so the scent is right there ON YOUR NOSE.

Corsx Blackhead Silk Finger Balls are little finger mitts made from raw silk cocoons. The natural fibre exfoliates and contains ceracin - a protein that removes skin waste (blackheads and impurities). These finger balls also help maintain moisture in your skin.

These little mitts are fun! Soften the finger ball by soaking it in warm water for a few minutes. Then place the ball on your index finger and gently massage the desired area. You can rinse the finger ball and reuse up to three times, but I wouldn't recommend it - eww! Your essentially removing blackheads from clogged pores onto the finger ball - throw it away when you're done!

The process felt nice and it was fun to try something as unique and interesting as raw silk cocoons. Albeit, I didn't see a change in my skin. My micro blackheads are still there. I will however continue to use these finger mitts once or twice a week just for fun. Maybe I'll see a difference overtime?

Bag Straps

July 10, 2017

Not sure who launched this fashion trend, but good on ya! Handbag accessories have been around a while - bag charms, mini bags attached to larger bags.. and while mismatched straps may not be new, it's mainstream presence is definitely a must-have in the fashion scene these days. I was first introduced to bag straps at Fendi in New York. There were so many designs, and each strap gave your bag a unique look. Of course, Fendi (my favorite accessory brand) exaggerates each strap with huge geometrical flowers, shapes and colors. AMAZING! Considering the detail and unique designs, the high ticket is definitely warranted (at Fendi).

Premiere designers aren't the only ones launching bag straps. Many contemporary (and less expensive) brands have incorporated this trend in their lineup. You don't have to have a premier designer bag to elevate your arm candy - a limited edition bag strap will do..

My Must-Haves

May 22, 2017

Spring is here - aka - 'pedicures are necessary weather'. It's time to let your feet breathe a little, and show off Springs favorite shoes. There are so many styles to choose from this season - it's kinda all over the place. While I usually opt for sneakers, heels are making a comeback on my shoe rack. These are my favorites (so far).

The t-strap and nude color of Francesco Russo ankle length sandals (available at FARFETCH) will elongate your legs dramatically. The wide vamp is comfy - in 4" heels, you need that extra support. Pair with skirts or cropped trousers. Fendi stripped cropped trousers, and a loose silk camisole would look amazing with these sandals.

These Gianna Meliani flamingo print feather sandals (available at FARFETCH) are EVERYTHING - the printed tie wraps above your ankle to elongate your legs, the flamingo print is fun, feminine and pretty, and the pink feathers - LOVE! These are statement sandals.

My favorite shoe this season is Stuart Weitzman's Nudistsong sandal. This style is flattering, feminine and comes in many colors. I purchased the Nudistsong sandal in Azure (pictured). This pale shade of blue will look great on sun-kissed skin. The shoe runs narrow (and I have small feet), so I recommend opting for the 'wide' fit.

Yeah, the weather is heating up, but booties are still an essential Spring shoe. These Chloé fringe open toe booties (available at FARFETCH) are sexy and who doesn't love fringe. Pair with high-waisted denim shorts (I'm not talking booty baring shorts), and a simple top (maybe a tee), or a loose, floral print dress. This fringe will sway while you walk..

My Must-Haves

April 14, 2017

My ongoing, never-ending wishlist.. I'm still coveting everything pink and nude (it's an obsession). This Spring I want pink, floral, flowing and oversized - Paired with feminine handbags, unique sandals and statement booties. Oh, and I'm collecting sneakers this summer to pair with cute dresses and frayed denim.

I'm obsessed with this Stella McCartney Embroidered Lace Dress (available at FARFETCH). It's fun, fresh and definitely makes a statement. Imma break the bank for this one..

Fendi By The Way Tote (available at FARFETCH). Ok, I just purchased a Fendi tote, but I want this one too. The floral detail is feminine and the neutral colors will go with everything. I like the boxy shape and long strap. We'll see..

There's no doubt you will see me wear these Fendi Bow Front Sandals (available at FARFETCH) this summer. I love slides and the bow detail is so cute! The spandex/elastine fabric is super comfy (I have the boots).

Fendi Sock Style Boots (available at FARFETCH) are my favorite shoe this summer. I have these boots in Bianco and they're surprisingly comfy. I want the blue and the gray/multi with floral print. These boots elongate my legs dramatically - MUST HAVE!

Jacquemus Checkered Shirt with Oversized Cuffs (available at FARFETCH). Button downs are a staple, but the oversized cuffs on this shirt will elevate your look and make a statement. Pair with booties and wear as a dress, or layer long-over-long with statement denim. I have to have this shirt.

The Fendi Handkerchief Hem Scallopped Shorts (available at FARFETCH) are so pretty, feminine and unique. I love the Fendi Spring 2017 collection - I want everything..

Skin Illuminating Cleanser

June 24, 2016

I received a deluxe sample of the Skin Illuminating Cleanser with my Clarisonic Mia Fit. Instant obsession. The smell is so refreshing - a kind of citrus meets a subtle floral scent. Oh, and I LOVE soapsuds (hair, face, body - I need bubbles)! This milky cleanser gets super sudsy, so I'd recommend using a tiny amount. The first time I used this Skin Illuminating Cleanser, I put a big dollop on the brush, and had suds running all down my face and décolletage.

After a few weeks, my skin was visibly brighter and more vibrant. This cleanser contains licorice root extract - which lightens skin, peppermint leaf extract to sooth the skin and Gingko Biloba leaf extract to increase circulation.

Clarisonic's Skin Illuminating Cleanser is meant to be used in the AM, but I use it at night. There's nothing better than removing all your makeup with a super refreshing cleanser that leaves your skin soft and hydrated. I'm a fan and will definitely repurchase.

I should mention that I use cleansing oil in the AM. If you cleanse your face thoroughly in the evening, there's no need to use your Clarisonic in the morning. I also exfoliate regularly and use my Clarisonic every night, so a little oil nourishment in my beauty routine is necessary.

Luxury Fashion For Less: Burberry Prorsum

October 06, 2015

The Burberry Prorsum Fall 2015 collection, 'Patchwork, Pattern and Prints' showcased 70's inspired chic bohemian style. Floral and fringe dominated the runway and each look was as inspiring as the last. The suede fringe cape was my favorite. The elderberry colored cape retails for €7,250! You can buy a similar style at Mango in cognac for €99,99! This neutral color would look great paired with dark denim and bordeaux over-the-knee boots.

The Burberry Prorsum show always introduces a new style of handbag featured in that seasons favorite colors and embellishments. The Fall 2015 collection showcased the 'Bucket Bag' in two sizes, prints, suede and of course fringed. Pictured here is a dark green fringed suede bag by Mango. Bucket shaped, jewel tone and fringed - embodies everything necessary to pull off a Burberry Prorsum inspired look.

Mind Your Midriff

July 02, 2015

Before I go on a rant about minding your midriff, let me be clear - most women have midriff concerns and it is normal to have a slight bump or swelling in your abdomen area. Only models (whom are usually in their twenties) have a flat stomach and they work hard for it. Those of us who don't obsess over our physic during the winter, might have some regrets come that first summer heat-wave. Even if you bust your ass tryna get fit for summer vacation, after the first salt-rimmed margarita and poolside burger - your bloated! So don't fret, just dress appropriately and do your best to mask your shortcomings with the right attire. Here are some bikini options for those of us trying to cover our midriff while keeping fashionable and cool in tropical temperatures. Moderate to high rise bottoms are your best friend this summer. Side ruching (gathering of material) creates a diversion and makes the area appear smaller. Prints conceal, while solid colors tend to show your figure for what it is. Horizontal stripes will make your bust look larger and your hips wider, in turn your belly will appear flatter. A pair of high-waisted shorts atop your bikini is a cute 'cover up'. It's all about playing with proportions, texture, prints and styles to find your perfect poolside attire.

Paris Fashion Week: Stella McCartney

March 10, 2015

Nobody does luxurious minimalism like Stella McCartney. Staying true to form, this collection showcased structured garments, long over long and monochromatic looks. The long one-sleeved knit sweaters are modern and sure to make a statement. I'm not sure about white flowers in fall, but this floral dress is gorgeous. There were many white looks throughout the show that caught my attention - I'm especially drawn to the hooded white fur/knit coat - it's extravagant and I luv it!

Milan Fashion Week: Gucci

February 25, 2015

Newly appointed creative director at Gucci, Alessandro Michele, is showcasing his own vision, far from past collections and giving us a new, contemporary "Gucci girl".

Not what you would expect on a Gucci runway - These garments look like something out of a vintage store or your grandma's attic. Mind you it was intriguing and carried us to a time and place where 70's inspired geek street fashion is chic. Some of the pieces really threw me off, but styling aside and minus the fur-muppet slides, the floral patterns, retro textiles and the easy-going vibe is refreshing. I know - vintage is refreshing? The nonchalant fashion attitude, random dressing, minimal makeup and messy hair makes me feel like we don't have to try so hard - fashion is about expression, so throw on whatever you feel like and wear it like it's 1975!
