What is Your Perfect Match?

June 08, 2016

I just received my online order from KOH Cosmetics and love this KOH color card. There are 227 colored stickers for you to try on and determine which ones you like. What a fantastic idea! Attention ALL nail polish brands - we want color cards!

I'm a huge KOH Cosmetics fan and am a little bummed that the store has closed in Amsterdam (insert sad face). kohcosmetics.com seems to be the only way to shop this amazing nail care brand these days. My favorite KOH Cosmetics products are the Hand Nourisher, Nourishing Cuticle Brush, Anti-Aging Base Coat (it's the perfect pink color), Essential Nail Serum, Crystal Nail File To Go, Gentle Cuticle Stick, and the Natural, Glossy Nail Buffer Set. I'm branding KOH Cosmetics a 'premiere designer' of nail care and encourage you to shop this elite brand.

Empties

December 23, 2015

I am super high maintenance when it comes to facial cosmetics and insist on taking everything when I travel. If I packed full-sized containers, I'd need a second suitcase! Mini's and empties are my travel 'must haves'.

MAC stackable containers and Bobbi Brown empties are my favorite travel containers. MAC stackable jars are the best way to arrange all of your facial creams and serums. If you're like me and use up to seven creams a day, these mini containers will drastically minimize the size of your toiletry bag. These jars are kinda delicate, so be careful when screwing them onto each other. I find anti-aging creams and sunscreen have harsh effects on plastic, which causes them to break easily - makes me wonder what it's doing to my face! Bobbi Brown empties are made of thicker plastic with a screw-on cap that seals the jars and bottles; they will never leak. These empties are great for liquids and foundation. They can also withstand the harsh effects of strong anti-aging creams or sunscreens.

Shrink your toiletry bag with stackable's, mini's and travel containers. This is an investment you'll be happy you made.

Rethink Your Retinol Routine

December 03, 2015

Skinceuticals reigns supreme in skincare products. This dermatologist recommended brand has just about anything you need to combat every problem. I am definitely a fan and it's no surprise that I turned to Skinceuticals for a 'non-prescription' retinol treatment. Clinically diagnosed rosacea temporarily suspended my prescribed anti-aging treatments, but after years of combating this condition, I'm back at fighting the ageing process. Retinol is undoubtedly a great way to replenish your skin, combat wrinkles and revive your otherwise dull complexion - but not without side effects! I'm sure you've heard horror stories about retinol and I'm sure they're all true - I have a few of my own. In the end, it's about moderation and finding what regimen works best for your skin.

I recommend this four-step regimen twice a week to start and increase as needed. Wash your face with Skinceuticals Gentle Cleanser. Of course, it's 'gentle' on your skin, refreshing and nourishing. Then apply Skinceuticals Eye Cream to combat dark circles, puffy under eyes and protect this sensitive area from the retinol. Next, apply a pea-size amount of retinol to your entire face (avoid eye area). I suggest starting with retinol 0.5 and increasing it to 1.0 if needed. Wait 30 minutes (or more) and apply Skinceuticals Epidermal Repair. I use this product for repairing my skin after retinol, sunburns, and any severe dry skin conditions I may have - It's a must-have in my skin care regimen.

The more serious side effects of retinol are chapped skin, severe dry patches, burning and redness. While reducing these side effects, this four-step regimen will nourish your skin, allowing for healing between application and extreme nourishment from the Epidermal repair cream. Retinol will diminish wrinkles, combat discoloration and give you a more even complexion. It's a great solution to ageing skin, but use with caution and don't rush in.

No-makeup Makeup Kinda Glow

November 04, 2015

I have been protesting foundation for years and instead focused on blemish free, healthy skin. Laser treatments, topical medication and anti-aging creams replace my need for layers of makeup and my skin looks great (for the most part). I'm also a no-makeup makeup kinda girl and while I appreciate cheek and lip color, thick lashes and a heavy brow, I'm not focused on a 'perfect' complexion. Until..

I was feeling drab one day and happened to be near a Bobbi Brown counter (never makeup shop when you're feeling down). Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation and Intensive Skin Serum Concealer were on display and of course the Bobbi Brown consultant was happy to sample the products for me. I wasn't completely sold on the effect, mostly because I don't like having makeup applied over my own. I asked for a sample to try at home, just in case I didn't like the color or overall look and wanted to return the unopened bottle. This foundation moved to the top of my 'must have' beauty product list after just one application. My skin was glowing, looked fresh and appeared natural. I applied a thin layer of the concealer over my Bobbi Brown tinted eye-brightner and the combination worked great to cover my dark circles and even out my under eye area. These lightweight serums will brighten your skin, even out your complexion and give you a natural medium coverage.

I highly recommend purchasing the Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face & Touchup brush. The soft bristles blend these serums onto your skin seamlessly. Apply a small amount of foundation on the back of your hand and from there small amounts onto the larger end of the brush. In circular motions, apply the foundation starting on your nose and working your way outwards towards your hair line. You don't need a lot of product for the intended medium coverage. Use the small end of the brush to blend the Intensive Skin Serum Concealer under your eyes.

For a hint of color and fresh look, Bobbi Brown blush in Pastel Peach is subtle and pretty. Apply to the apples of your cheeks, a little down your nose, across your forehead and a dab on your chin for a healthy glow.

Up close and Simple

July 28, 2015

It's hot and humid in Santorini.. Fussing with perfect hair and makeup is wasted vacation time, so I'm keeping it simple. Bronzer and coral blush are enough to brighten my complexion and give a natural glow (of course I'm avoiding to tan my face). Bronzer allows for consistent color all over without undoing all the facial laser treatments and anti-aging you've worked towards over the years - your face is sensitive and you will regret the sun damage one day. I straightened my hair once and it lasted a few hours - not worth the effort. My hairstyle of choice - a low-bun with pieces falling out. A windblown 'effortless' style.

Accessories are important on vacation and white pieces standout against your sun-kissed skin. Layer bracelets and pile on small rings - opt for tiny rose gold or silver rings on each finger (rose gold looks great on tanned skin). Vacation destinations are great places to shop for accessories - so hit the stores early in your vacation and stock up on local (handmade) accessories.

Accessories pictured here: Dior Chicago Aviators, Bottega Veneta Knot Bracelet, Isabel Marant Bracelet, Gabriela Artigas Rose Simple Rings, Blanca Monros Black Diamond Ring, Ariel Gordon Love Knot Ring, Kate Spade Bow Bracelet.

KOH Anti-Aging Base Coat

June 04, 2014

The KOH Anti-Aging Base Coat is basically a primer for your nails. Your nails become stained after applying dark (especially red) nail polish - this base coat will create a blank palette on your nails, so your polish will appear even and true to color.

Although this is a base coat polish, I use it as a color polish. Four coats will give you a subtle pink color that is clean and natural. After wearing dark polish on my toes for many years, I had deep yellow stains on my nails and was desperate to get them back to their natural color. I used the KOH Natural, Glossy Nail Buffer Set each time I did a manicure to gently remove the top layer of stained nail and applied the KOH Anti-Aging Base Coat. The KOH Anti-Aging Base Coat masked the yellow stains and my toes looked great. Even though my nails are back to their natural color, I still wear the KOH Anti-Aging Base Coat. I love the light pink color and natural nail polish goes with anything.

Lumiére Bio-Restorative Eye Cream & Serum

April 07, 2014

I can't live without these two products! Lumiére Bio-restorative Eye Cream and Bio-Serum with PSP. These two eye treatments are the basis for my extensive preventative anti-aging routine. First I gently apply the serum under my eyes and allow to absorb. Then I apply the eye cream under my eyes and on the outside where wrinkles are prominent. I use both treatments twice a day. I do not have under-eye swelling, or dark circles and I attribute that to my healthy diet, drinking lots of water and most of all to my Lumiére Bio-Restorative Eye Cream & Bio-Serum.

The Lumiére Bio-restorative Eye Cream is available in a 15 ml bottle. The Bio-Serum with PSP is available in a 4 ml pen that is great for travel and in a 30 ml bottle. The downside to these products is the price. The eye cream sells for around $85, the serum pen for $85 and the 30 ml bottle for $210. You do not need a lot of solution per application, so these products will last a few months. I know these treatments are expensive, but they're more than worth the money! You can purchase Lumiére Bio-Restorative Eye Cream & Bio-Serum on-line at Amazon or skinstore.com.
