Milan Fashion Week: Gucci

February 25, 2015

Newly appointed creative director at Gucci, Alessandro Michele, is showcasing his own vision, far from past collections and giving us a new, contemporary "Gucci girl".

Not what you would expect on a Gucci runway - These garments look like something out of a vintage store or your grandma's attic. Mind you it was intriguing and carried us to a time and place where 70's inspired geek street fashion is chic. Some of the pieces really threw me off, but styling aside and minus the fur-muppet slides, the floral patterns, retro textiles and the easy-going vibe is refreshing. I know - vintage is refreshing? The nonchalant fashion attitude, random dressing, minimal makeup and messy hair makes me feel like we don't have to try so hard - fashion is about expression, so throw on whatever you feel like and wear it like it's 1975!

London Fashion Week: Burberry Prorsum

February 23, 2015

Christopher Bailey is undoubtedly my favorite designer and the Burberry Prorsum show is my most anticipated throughout fashion month. This 70's inspired collection was titled Patchwork, Pattern and Prints - I couldn't have said it better.

The bohemian looks were comprised of paisley and floral prints in blue, red, olive green and gray. Patchwork and fringe were the dominant features in this collection. Capes, ponchos, booties and the bucket bag showcased heavy fringe in jewel tones and classic dark tan. The patchwork fringed poncho will definitely be the "it" piece this fall (as was the monogrammed Prorsum poncho from fall 2014). Paired with over the knee suede patchwork boots, bed-head hair and round sunglasses - the epitome of 70's chic. The navy shearling cape is gorgeous and timeless (my favorite piece). And I'm coveting the patchwork fringe booties. This collection is alluring, nostalgic and inspiring.

New York Fashion Week: 3.1 Phillip Lim

February 18, 2015

The Phillip Lim fashion show is my most anticipated during New York fashion week. Much of my closet is lined with Lim designs and I'm anxious to add some of the pieces in this collection to my wardrobe.

This collection was comprised of distressed fabrics (silk and knits), fraying, strapping and layers. Many of Lim's past designs were referenced in this season's collection. The montage of asymmetry, uneven hems and oversized silhouettes showed a slight punk reference and appeared a little erratic. Some of the looks were more subtle, but not without leaving an impression - the long sleeve gray denim jumpsuit and distressed knit sweater atop a burgundy leather skirt were simple (in comparison to the other looks), chic and memorable.

New York Fashion Week: Rag & Bone

February 17, 2015

The Rag & Bone fashion show was just what you would expect from the brand. This season was a compilation of many previous designs - off-beat street fashion with a hip-hop influence. The collection sure was shiny - lurex and nylon skirts, as well as shiny vinyl coats. The 90's inspired collection showcased puffer jackets and bright colors. The knee length skirts atop tailored pants were my favorite combination amongst the many layers in each look. The shiny long camisoles over long sleeve t-shirts was intriguing - this collection was about long over long, layers, mismatched colors and innovative fabrics.

New York Fashion Week: Thakoon

February 16, 2015

Yesterday I mentioned the "mismatched" trend. Well, this is what it looks like. Much of the Thakoon collection for fall/winter was comprised of contrast and showcased layers, folding, wrapping, tying, mismatching textures, textiles and prints - I luv it! These mismatched looks and odd silhouettes are unusual, intriguing and anything but boring. This collection has inspired me to mix it up and step out of my comfort zone.

New York Fashion Week: Tibi

February 15, 2015

Last season Tibi showcased fabulous shoes and again the brand has introduced new takes on their previous collection. I need to draw your attention to the fluffy shoes - Though I would never wear them, I luv these shoes!

This arctic inspired collection consisted of loose fitting garments, calming colors and silhouettes that we often see on the Tibi runway. Many of the pieces in this collection are made from super soft materials - who doesn't wanna be wrapped in soft garments! I'm looking forward to the bouclé culottes and fur-shearling coat - so cozy. Although forecasters say mismatching is the "new" trend, Tibi showcased monochromatic looks, from head-to-toe. I'm a huge fan of many shades of one color and hope this trend lasts a little longer.

New York Fashion Week: Charlotte Ronson

February 15, 2015
I want to be this girl! Effortless, feminine and chic. The textiles, color palette and prints in this collection remind me of fall. There are so many pieces in this 60's inspired collection on my "must have" list. I'm really coveting the gray bomber jacket and high waisted pants in carmine red. Ronson is getting unfavorable reviews about this collection, stating her new aesthetic will disappoint customers - this is the first time I've seen her show and I really like this collection! Thus far, this is the most wearable collection I've seen showcased for fall/winter 2015 (for someone at my age and with my lifestyle).

New York Fashion Week: Jason Wu

February 14, 2015

Wu had me at the first look.. The wide collar fur vest and olive green ensemble that opened his show is perfection. I was taken by many of the looks, especially the olive green garments. The collection showcased impeccable tailoring, luxurious fur vests, coats and oversized scarves (gorgeous), crocodile-stamped leather and body-hugging silks. The long sleeve sheer black dress and sheer beaded sleeveless dress are my most coveted looks from the show - surely the epitome of seduction. Albeit, Jason Wu has changed his aesthetic and is designing luxury sportswear, I love where this path is taking him. If only I had the lifestyle to wear these garments (daydreaming!).

Adidas x Kanye West Fashion Show

February 13, 2015

Yesterday, models walked onto the runway and stood in rows while Kanye West made his Adidas x Kanye West presentation. My first thought - ballerina meets Game of Thrones meets great camping garments! I guess the head-to-toe leotards, knee high socks and bunched boots kinda threw me off at first, but all that aside, each garment displayed atop the leo's screamed Kanye West and his personal style. I like West's style and I loved the show - I might even buy my first Adidas garment in the fall.. There were fifty looks that showcased the men in layers of clothes, slouchy pants, oversized sweaters and nice selection of coats. The women's looks consisted of oversized garments atop sports bras, body suits and leotards - the looks were casual (kinda frumpy), but cool and modern. Day one of New York fashion week fall/winter 2015 and the Adidas x Kanye West "off-beat street fashion" show has already made a big impression.

Tibi Spring/Summer 2015

February 10, 2015
The Tibi Spring/Summer 2015 collection has finally arrived! This collection is cohesive, but diverse, with flowing materials, structured garments, some fitted and some oversized, wrapping and hand-crafted materials with various textures. The collection is clean, modern and shows an asian influence. I absolutely luv this collection; especially the shoes. The fringe slides and mules (pictured here) are unique, fun and kinda peculiar - I have to have them! My favorite pieces are the Kirsi Slides, Rienhard Straw Hat, Ribbon Fil Culottes, and Juna Jogging pants. My shopping bag is overflowing - I want everything. Visit www.tibi.com to browse my most coveted collection of the season.
