Lashify - DIY Lash Extensions

July 17, 2020

Lashify DIY lash extensions are AMAZING! The unique under lash technique allows for precise placement and is much easier than the dated over the lash technique. Finally, faux lashes that are easy to apply and give you a "natural" full lash look.

I'd recommend the Lashify Control Kit to start (pictured here). It includes 12mm and 14mm  Gossamer lashes. You can choose between amplify, bold or curl. There are variety of photos of each style for your reference. I chose the amplify Gossamer lashes and love them! I'll come back to the kit..

Lashify offers a variety of lash styles and each has many lengths to chose from. This allows you to customize your look, apply lashes that are just the right length for you and mix and match sizes for true customization.

There are 12 Gossamer lash sections per cartridge. If you mix and match lengths, you can get 3-4 individual uses per two cartridges with two different lengths. I like to apply two sections of 14mm or 16mm (depending on the style) to the outer lashes and three 12mm or 14mm (depending on outer lashes) to the rest of my lashes.

I'm terrible at applying false lashes - I don't wear heavy eye makeup and never eye liner, so the over the lash technique doesn't blend naturally.

I'm beyond happy that Lashify created the under lash technique AND divided the fibers amongst smaller lash sections, rather than one band of faux fibers. Small sections allow you to take your time applying and follow the curvature of your eye evenly. This DIY faux lash technique looks super natural.

It is recommended to use the Fuse Control Wand to apply the lashes. Just turn upside down so curvature is the opposite of your eye and use the tip to place the individual sections.

I prefer to use my fingers for a more precise placement and then the Fuse Control Wand to secure the lashes. It is recommended to avoid using tweezers, because they can damage the lashes. I never listen! AND, of course use tweezers.

With proper care, these lash extensions can be worn for up to seven days. To achieve the longest wear, I recommend applying the Night Bond Gossamer Lash Formula each night, along with the Glass Waterproof Glossamer Lash Coating.

I have worn the lashes to sleep and they stay put. Albeit, I usually remove my lashes after a full day of wear, gently and thoroughly wash the fibers and store for a second and third use before discarding them. It's simply because I like my face to be super clean before bed.

Oh and I don't apply mascara on these lashes. It's not necessary - My lashes look full and my eyes super-enhanced.

In addition to two sets of lashes, the kit also includes a Fuse Control Wand, Glass Waterproof Glossamer Lash Coating with Macro Tip and Whisper Light Dual Sided Bond with Micro Mixed Tips.

The Fuse Control Wand is designed to fit the curvature of your eyelid for precise application. There'e also removable "Wandoms" that you can put on the wand for cushiony, non-stick fuse. I highly recommend using the Wandoms.

The Whisper Light Dual Sided Bond with Mixed Tips allows you to chose between clear or black adhesive. The hypoallergenic glue should be applied under your top lashes, along the lash base. A little goes a long way and you want to avoid your liquid line.

This dual sided bond has micro tips and is easy to apply. I find the black adhesive blends better than the clear (which is kinda white). Black gives a more dramatic look. The small mascara-like wands make it easy to apply a small coat under the lashes. Don't go to the tip of your lashes - If you do, I recommend removing the adhesive with your fingers. Glue all the way to the tip of the lashes will hinder the flare effects and cause clumping of the lashes.

The Glass Waterproof Glossamer Lash Coating is a glossy coat that removes residue and stickiness. Apply immediately after setting the lash extensions and then daily to refresh your lashes and give them a sheen appearance. The mascara-like wand has a small fluffy ball at the end, so you can use the brush or ball depending on your preferred application.

I also purchased the Gossamer Lash Storage Case. It has four sections, so you can separate your lashes by style and/or size. This little plastic case is perfect for on-the-go and travel.

The Melt Away solution removes your lashes and eye makeup effortlessly. Soak a cotton pad with the Melt Away removal solution and gently swipe across your lashes until they come off onto the pad. Removal is easy and there is no damage to my lashes. The remover is a little oily, so I suggest a quick rinse after use.

If you plan to clean and reuse your lashes, make sure to get all of the bond off, as well as the oily residue from the remover - Otherwise, the lashes won't cooperate the next time you use them.

The Blow tool allows you to dry your lashes faster. Just give it a squeeze and allow the air to set your lashes quicker.

I don't know if each order comes with a Gossamer application manual or just the Lashify Control Kit. The manual gives you detailed step-by-step instructions for prep, application and removal.

Don't get discouraged if the application didn't go great the first time - It takes a little practice. If you are accustom to wearing faux lashes, this process should be fairly easy for you, but beginners may struggle. There are many application videos on the Lashify site for your reference.

Lashify has changed the world of faux lashes and enhanced my look dramatically. These lash extensions are a must have - Maybe the best beauty product of 2020!

Baking Over 40?

January 10, 2019

It's the product junkie in me! I'm not a fan of the "franchise", but can't help but peruse and purchase the latest and "greatest" on KKW Beauty (and every other cosmetic site I can think of). There's something about the KKW Beauty brand AND it's not the makeup! Admittedly, I have fallen victim to the Kardashian world domination effort.

I love the KKW Beauty packaging. It's good quality and attractive. The brushes are great. They're dense, soft and a pretty shade of pink (me and pink is like a bull headed for a red flag). I haven't washed any of my brushes yet, so I might retract that statement..

I lost the instruction card that came with this light concealer kit, so I watched the KKW Beauty tutorial a few times to be sure I'm getting the application right. The tutorial shows Mario Dedivanovic applying Kim's makeup and explaining his process. Kim Kardashian starts off by saying that Mario doesn't want her to speak during the tutorial, but she continues to chime in.. No surprise there - she is royalty after all!

The concealer is nice. The color in the light kit is No. 4 and suits my pale, olive-toned skin nicely. The texture is medium and blends well. I would compare this concealer to the Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Concealer (LOVE this one). The KKW Beauty concealer does have a strange chemical scent - Hmm.. This liquid concealer comes in a small 0.162 oz container and has a doe-foot applicator. It's not gonna last long.

As per the Mario Dedivanovic KKW Beauty tutorial, let the baking begin.. But first, lets put things into perspective here. Kim Kardashian has a near perfect base (no-makeup base) and doesn't have the same struggles as most of us. I'm pushing 40 and masking dark circles is the least of my worries.

I think women of a certain age should stop wearing eye liner and mascara under the eye - makeup is meant to accentuate and why would you want to call attention to your tired, puffy, wrinkled eyes? You don't! Thats is why I avoid powder in this area. It seeps into your wrinkles and creates a dried-up prune"ish" look.

KKW Beauty Baking Powder is no exception and not suitable for anyone with even one wrinkle. This stuff made me look dry AF and only accentuated my wrinkles. I let the baking powder sit for a about 10 minutes and tried to smooth out the result with my beautyblender, but the powder was relentless and caused serious streaks under my eyes.

Step 3 - I applied the Brightening Powder No. 1. I hoped this would finalize the application process and possibly make it look better, but NO! It's too light and I looked like an alien! It definitely covers dark circles, but unless you plan to pile on a ton of makeup, this look is too much. This is not a no-makeup-makeup kinda look.

I have NEVER experienced makeup "boogers" before and was checking may eyes all day to make sure none had returned. I had these pale clumps of goo in the corners of my eyes and am assuming it was the excessive powder under my eyes. GROSS!

Should women approaching or over 40 "bake" their under eyes? NO, keep the baking in the kitchen and I don't mean do your makeup in the kitchen. Women of a certain age should opt for minimal makeup. Eat healthy, drink water and get lots of sleep - leave the faux, too much makeup look to the youngins. Under eye makeup baking is a dangerous zone for most of us.

Albeit, I love the KKW Beauty brushes. The Dual Ended Sponge and Brush Applicator in the concealer kit is perfect for travel. The sponge is great for blending under the eyes and around the nose. This dual-ended brush has landed a permanent spot in my Cosmocube.

I'm sure the KKW brand was created and is backed by expert makeup artists and specialists and suitable for the younger generation, but this kit fell short of my "old" expectations. I was hoping for a perfect look, but ended up with prune face - I get botox three times a year and take good care of my skin, so if this kit accentuated my minimal wrinkles, I'd be cautious if I had a few.

JANUARY 19th - It's been a few days since my initial experience with this kit and my opinion has slightly changed. I'm still not a fan of the the baking powder, BUT I revisited the Brightening Powder No. 1 over my go-to concealers and LOVE the result. I apply Laura Mercier and Bobbi Brown concealers, let it sit and after 15-20 min, I gently swept the Brightening Powder No. 1 along the dark areas. This powder made my eyes look brighter and gave me a fresh look. I'm a fan!

Barely There Eye Shadow

March 18, 2018

I'm a no-makeup makeup kinda girl. The first and last time I swayed from my barley there eye makeup routine, I applied blue mascara AND had a severe allergic reaction to the blue dye! Back to my skin-tone eye shadows and black mascara... I love nude eye shadow palettes, but they usually contain darker shades for a smokey look and I rarely go beyond a dark skin-toned eye shadow. All my eye shadow palettes are slowly withering in my Cosmocube. Albeit, I'm still addicted to eye shadow palettes and have too many! I'm more inclined to purchase single eye shadows and create my own perfectly nude palette.

My barley there eye makeup routine consists of seven pink-toned and skin-toned eye shadows, maybe a little sparkle and lots of layers. BUT, first prep + prime is essential. I'm obsessed with eye creams. I use Benefit Cosmetics It's Potent! Eye Cream or Bobbi Brown Cosmetics Hydrating Eye Cream under my concealer and shadows, and Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Repair Cream in the AM - yes, I have a wakeup and refresh skincare routine and then a prep + prime for makeup application routine. For anti-aging, I use Neocutis Lumiére Bio-restoraive Serum Powered by PSP and Neocutis Lumiére Eye Cream with PSP before bed. This stuff is amazing!

The Bobbi Brown Cosmetics Hydrating Eye Cream To Go is compact and the doe-foot applicator is super soft. The hydrating eye cream is light, silky and the perfect under-makeup moisturizer. Your under-eye area feels smooth and refreshed. This 6 ml travel size lip gloss-like tube (limited edition) is convenient and perfect for travel. I prefer this on-the-go applicator over the original Bobbi Brown Cosmetics Hydrating Eye Cream pot.

Primers are essential to an even skin-tone. Yes, your eyelids need a little primer too. Laura Mercier Eye Basics eyelid primer is like foundation for your eyelids. This primer is available in six shades - even a pale blue to brighten your lids. The foundation-like primer is creamy, conceals discoloration and creates the perfect base for eye-makeup. Eyelid primer is a must-have for the perfect nude(ish) look.

Back to my perfectly procured list of barely there shadows. I have to admit, I'm not a huge M.A.C fan, but the pink and skin-tone eye shadow selection is vast. The on-trend shades are gorgeous and the pigmented eye shadows last all day on your lids. I typically start with the lightest shade, apply pink-tone eye shadow to my lids and then two darker shades at the outer corner of my eyelids and in the crease. The final look is subtle, but makes my eyes appear uniform and brighter.

Apply Brulé satin eye shadow all over (up to your brow), Orb satin eye shadow all over (up to your brow), Malt matte eye shadow from the crease to your lashes, Grain satin eye shadow along the crease and blend Arena satin eye shadow from the outer corner and along the crease. Gorgeous! The subtle layers create dimension and elevate your natural, no-makeup makeup look.

I have been a fan of Sephora Collection eye shadows for years. The selection 'was' vast, the eye shadows are inexpensive and the pink-toned shades met my eye-makeup needs. There doesn't seem to be a big selection of the Colorful shadows anymore? Sephora still creates beautiful shadow palettes, but the single eye shadows are becoming obsolete. Bummer, cause I love the Sephora Colorful luster matte shadow in Desert Rose. The light pink shade is perfect for those 'I don't have time for makeup' days.

The Sephora Colorful glitter eye shadow in Walking in the Sand is a similar pink shade but has a little sparkle. I use this eye shadow to highlight the center or inner corner of my lids. This one is on sale at Spehora.com - Imma stock up.

I kinda wish I was aware that Sephora is discontinuing the Colorful eye shadow collection before I included two of my favorites in this list, BUT you can use these shades as a reference.. AND, it takes forever to shoot and edit these photos - Sephora Colorful eye shadows shall remain on my perfectly procured barely there eye makeup list.

IT Cosmetics

November 28, 2017

IT Cosmetics is a cosmetic brand developed with plastic surgeons - sounds promising. The co-founder and CEO, Jamie, is looking for solutions to 'real' problems. Honestly, I like this girl - if you see her before and after pics, she has serious redness (I can relate). She's putting herself out there, showing off her skin issues and giving us a solution.

This brand was purchased by L'Oréal - The major makeup empire boost has proven to be successful. It Cosmetics is getting great reviews and many of IT Cosmetics products are on Sephora's 'best sellers' list. I had to give this stuff a try..

I call this my 'anti-redness warpaint'. If you have Rosacea or hyper pigmentation, this stuff is going to change your life. I desperately needed a solution to my rosy cheeks and forehead. Although I use medicated creams, my angry skin flares up on the daily. I suppose I could stop eating spicy food and drinking wine - NAH!

In comes Bye Bye Redness by IT Cosmetics.. It's kind of a foundation, primer and cream in one. Bye Bye Redness is thick, has a silky texture and gives you super full-coverage. This product is smooth, goes on like a primer (similar to Colorscience primers), and has a tinge of green (to combat redness). Apply to your cheeks, nose and forehead, and blend outwards. A little goes a long way. The embarrassing redness is gone. GONE! Without a doubt, this is the product find of 2017!

I love Bye Bye Redness, so I thought I'd try a few more products from the IT Cosmetics lineup..

The Confidence in a Cream (the pale yellow pot) is a 'transforming moisturizer in a cream'. The texture is nice, just thick enough and leaves your skin feeling moisturized. It does however take time to absorb (not ideal when applying makeup). I liked the feeling of my skin after applying this cream, but the scent is a bit of a turnoff. I'm sorry Jamie, but this stuff smells like hotel cream. If scent is not an issue for you, I'd say this cream is great for colder seasons. It's super moisturizing.

I didn't like the Bye Bye Under Eye eye cream (the blue pot). It made my under eyes feel super tight and people said I looked tired. Whether or not this eye cream tightens, brightens and depuffs - I'm not sure, cause I only used it for a week. I guess my go-to Neo Cutis eye cream still reigns supreme.

I received a trail-size Super Hero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara (I'm not one to cheat), but thought I'd give it a go. This mascara is great, lengthens your lashes, glides on nicely and no clumping. The oversized, tapered brush makes application easy and coats your lashes evenly. Albeit, my go-to Buxom mascara remains my favorite. It's gonna take a true 'super mascara' to turn me. I intend to try more of the products from It Cosmetics. I'll let ya know my thought..

Sephora Stuff

October 25, 2017

Every now and then I'll sift through the Sephora Collection products lineup in search of new, unique cosmetics and tools. I always find good stuff. AND the Sephora brand prices are inexpensive compared to other brands featured at the store and on-line. These are my most recent finds..

Sephora Lineup Makeup Tape is the perfect solution to 'my' eye-makeup application needs. I'm terrible at applying eye-liner and usually opt to go bare, but this tape makes it so much easier to get a straight line and avoid smudging. This medical-grade tape is hypoallergenic and easy to remove. You an also use this tape for nail art.

Sephora Brush it Off Cleansing Brush Wipesgently remove residue and dirt from your makeup brushes. These wipes come in individually packets - great for travel. The non-alcohol based formula is kinda oil-like, but doesn't leave residue on your brushes. These wipes are not for cleaning your brushes, but for a quick wipe to remove the surface dirt.

TheSephora Brush Meets Comb Hair Brush Cleaneris a great little tool. The rake-like comb has flexible, steel bristles that remove hair and residue. I'm a little obsessed with keeping my hair brushes clean - Drives me nuts to see brushes full of hair - GROSS! Attention people who don't clean your brush regularly - there's dirt buildup, residue from products and bacteria festering in there. AND each time you brush your strands you're transferring that nastiness back onto your hair. CLEAN YOUR HAIR BRUSHES OFTEN.

Sephora Do It All Cotton Swabs are perfect for a multitude of makeup needs. There are 490 swabs of three unique precision tips per pack. The oval tip is great for basic needs, while the pointed tip is ideal for precise application.

These swabs are great for makeup removal/cleanup around the eyes. I wet them, and gently remove mascara that has smudged onto my upper lash line and waterline. SO much easer than using a regular cotton swab. Large cotton swabs are of course too big for this area, and the little cotton hairs always attach to my lashes. NO MORE! These swabs can also be used for smudging eyeliner, smoothing lipstick and lipliner edges, and removing nail polish from your cuticles. A must-have!

Benefit Mini Makeup Kits

May 09, 2017

I love Benefit cosmetics. The brand is fun, vibrant and ranks high on the 'favorite makeup brand' charts. Benefit Cosmetics Makeup Kits are the prefect way to try the brands best sellers and get a cute little makeup pouch. I purchased the 'Sunday My Prince Will Come Easy Weekender Kit' and 'Date Night With Mr. Right Sexy Night Out Makeup Kit' (the names are so fun). The products pictured here are from both kits - I only kept my favorite mini products and the pink pouch. There's also a Benefit Work Kit, Girl! Work-Day Essential Makeup kit. Each Benefit Cosmetics kit comes with four mini's and a makeup bag.

My favorite Benefit products - Benefit Watt's Up! Cream-to-Powder Highlighter in Champagne is my favorite highlighter (and I've tried them all). The highlight is subtle and the perfect shade. The stick glides on nicely - apply to your check bones, the bridge of your nose and upper lip with a damp beauty blender. The full-sized product has a little sponge applicator on one end, but I prefer the beauty blender. Benefit High Beam is a satiny-pink liquid highlighter. I put a little in my moisturizer for a healthy glow. Benefit They're Real! Tinted primer in Mink Brown is the perfect primer for eyebrows and lashes. Apply the primer before mascara for a dramatic look, or alone for a 'no-makeup' kinda look. Benefit GALifornia Blush in Sunny Golden Pink looks amazing on sun-kissed skin. It's an orange-coral shade and the pigment is strong, so apply a little and layer.

The Benefit mini products are really small and perfect for your handbag or travel cosmetic bag. I love mini's! Each kit retails for $32 and are available at Sephora.

Intensifying Long-Wear Mascara

July 08, 2016
I purchased the Party Lash Set by Bobbi Brown, so I could try three new mascaras for a fraction of the price and not feel bad about tossing the little tubes if they didn't suit my needs. This set retails for $52 - if you purchase the the three full-sized mascaras, the curler and a travel size makeup remover, it would cost $123! I always say mini's, samples and sets are the best way to try products. You may even discover a new must-have. The Intensifying Long-Wear Mascara in this set is my new must-have. I would've never purchased a micro wand and it hadn't occurred to me that I need multiple mascaras in my beauty routine. My new discovery prompted me to talk about mascara wands, and so..

Multiple Mascaras in Your Beauty Routine

July 08, 2016

Size and shape of a mascara brush, and density and flexibility of the bristles are important when choosing a mascara. The formula is relevant, but they're all similar and the brush is what really defines a great mascara. Depending on your needs, eye shape and lash length, the right wand is necessary.

Buxom Lash mascara is my favorite. The hourglass-shaped brush has long, closely packed plastic bristles that evenly coat your lashes without clumping. Want length and drama? You will love Buxom Lash. For a more natural look, start at the lash line and work your way up (or down), applying layers until you've reached your desired thickness. This will create a curled lash with more definition at the lash line. I focus on my outer lash line and apply less as I move towards the inner corner of my eye. For thick, dramatic lashes, apply one or two coats on the ends first and then apply to the lash line. Love to layer coats of mascara - this is the brush for you.

The larger your mascara brush, the more difficult it is to reach the outer lash line and coat your bottom lashes. The micro wand is perfect for coating 'every' lash. Before applying my volumizing Buxom Lash mascara, I apply Intensifying Long-Wear Mascara by Bobbi Brown at the outer corner of my eyes. Heavier mascara at the lash line and outer corner creates drama and intensifies your look.

Want thicker, plumped lashes? Try a large, dense brush. Oversized wands pick up a lot of product and thus allow you to apply more product with every sweep. Wiggle the brush at the roots, so the fibre bristles can wrap around your lashes for 360° coating. This method will seriously plump your lashes and create major volume.

Tapered wands are a two-in-one brush shape. The densely packed fibre bristles and thick base will plump your lashes. The skinny tip allows for more precision and coating those hard to reach lashes.

The curved brush is shaped similar to your lash line and allows for even coverage. This brush is great for curling your lashes.

A Spiral brush or curved bristles grab onto your lashes, coating every little hair evenly. You can create serious volume with the style wand.

I had never seen a Round brush until Givenchy's Phenomen'Eyes mascara. I love this mascara and the brush is excellent for precise application. You can focus on each section individually, rather than the 'all-over sweep' you get with tradition brushes. The round brush is also great for coating the outer corner giving you a more dramatic look.

Transform Your Look

June 06, 2016

Dramatically change your look AND simplify your beauty routine with Benefit Gimme Brow volumizing fiber gel, Buxom Lash Mascara and Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme. The 'easy' fresh-faced, summer look is my favorite and I'm a self-proclaimed pro at this 'no makeup, makeup' look. Gimme Brow, Buxom mascara and Extreme lip plumper are my 'I can't live without' makeup products for this simple look.

If you follow my blog, you know I'm no stranger to lip injections! Unfortunately, filler diminishes and you can only inject so much in a period of time. When your accustom to full lips and awaiting your next visit to the dermatologist, Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme will give you the ultimate pouty lip. The non-sticky gloss will give you an 'extreme' tingly feeling (love that) and your lips will appear much fuller within minutes. I have tried too many lip plumpers to mention and Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme still reigns supreme.

Of course, when a new 'revolutionary' mascara hits the beauty scene, I'm the first to buy it, but I always go back to Buxom Lash Mascara. This mascara goes on light and builds nicely, without clumping. There's never too much product on the brush and the little bristles do a great job separating your lashes evenly. The brush is big, so getting into the corner can be an issue - Bobbi Brown Intensifying Long Wear Mascara is perfect for the outer corner. I know artists say to let the first coat dry and the aptly the next, but I disagree. Continuously applying Buxom Lash mascara will create longer, voluminous lashes with no mess.

Benefit Gimme Brow volumizing fiber gel is a fairly new product in my makeup routine. Despite its newbie status, this little tube takes priority. I can do without mascara, but not brow gel. Gimme Brow has a thick, creamy texture that allows you to layer the product and build up your eyebrow hairs. Tip: let the first coat dry before applying the next. The short wand and little tapered brush (it's all about the brush) allow for precise application. Using little pressure and short strokes you can transform your brows in little time. The product does claim to adhere to skin allowing you to create artificial hairs. I prefer to keep it natural and avoid 'overdoing' my brows. Penciled-in brows look great in pics, but not so nice up close. Benefit Gimme brow gel is a 'MUST-HAVE'.

Too Cool For School Dinoplatz Twisty Tail Mascara is definitely 'too cool'. This multitasking mascara allows you to adjust the curve of the brush head to suit your eye-enhancing needs.
