The Puffer

November 21, 2017

The puffer coat has been around a while, but this 80's and 90's staple coat has a new identity in 2017. The original puffer coat style was basic - a quilted coat that has down insulation or synthetic fibers stuffed between the stitching (creating a puffed look). Depending on the fit and quality, the puffer-style coat can keep you super warm during the cold season.

The puffer coat was popular in the 80's and 90's, but then became more synonymous with the slopes and less of a street-style. In recent years, designers have revisited, and completely revamped the puffer coat. From floor-length to cropped, hooded, peplums, loud colors, oversized shapes and asymmetric cuts, the puffer is anything but ordinary these days.

The beige-hued puffer coat by Undercover (available at Mytheresa.com) is one of my favorites. The collar is layered - you can zip it up to keep your neck warm, or let it fall on each shoulder for an oversized-collar look. The technical, ruffled fabric at the hem is a statement, and the combination of beige fabrics are light, and feminine.

This Marques' Almeida puffer coat (available at Farfetch) is one version of the oversized style this season. There are three - waist-length, above-the-knee and a longer version. This one lands in the middle, is super-oversized and has a HUGE down-filled collar. I'm sure this will keep you warm. The asymmetric style dons the signature oversized safety pin (love that).

Stella McCartney was at the forefront of the return of this style. This dark red Stella McCartney double zip padded coat (available at Farfetch) is mid-length and slightly oversized. The 'parka-style' coat has two gold-tone zippers along the front, a hood and is made of luxurious, soft fabric. This deep red-hue is perfect for winter - so rich and warm.

I can see myself wearing this liner padded coat by Rick Owens (available at Farfetch). It's a subtle statement - a long puffer sleeveless style with a funnel neck that will keep you warm. I love vests in the winter. I'm a fan of knits and often sweaters and heavy coats are too warm (and bulky), but vests allow you to layer and layer.. If this puffer vest had a hood, it would be perfect.

Furry Flats

November 15, 2017

Furry footwear has been trending for a while now. From slides to slippers (ones you wear out), to fur-embellished sneakers.. Last year I wore Tibi booties that had a patch of fur along the vamp. Everyone stopped me on the streets to ask where I got my boots. A little fur-embellishment (or faux-fur) changes your look, adds texture, and can elevate an otherwise muted style. I wouldn't wear a loud outfit and attention grabbing furry shoes, but rather similar shades up top and don something fun and furry on your feet.

Gucci fur-embellished Princetown slippers dominate the 'furry-feet' style. Seems like every celebrity and model have a pair of these slippers. This season the Princetown slipper is all-over marino wool in light pink, yellow or fuchsia and pale brown. These slippers are AMAZING! I want them, but am hesitant to wear all-around furry shoes outside - I can just imagine how filthy they would get after one wear. Oh and what if you got unexpectedly caught in the rain! Nevertheless, the Gucci light pink Princetown slipper (available at Farfetch) is on my must-have list.

Valentino Garavani open mink fur-trimmed sneakers (available at Mytheresa.com) are much more subtle, but still make a furry statement. These slip-on sneakers have a pull-tab at the heel and don the signature pyramid-shaped studs amongst the fur. The fur-trim runs from one side of the shoe to the other, completely covering the vamp. I like the red fur, but they're available in many other colors as well.

These Prada embellished shearling slippers (available at Mytheresa.com) are over-the-top and super fun! The brown and white sheep fur has a pale-blue vamp with a crystal-embellished metal strap. Anything else and these would be too much (they kinda already are), BUT I love a statement shoe. These all-around furry sandals are anything but practical.

MIU MIU buckled ballerinas have been reinvented each season for a while now. This nude leather and rabbit fur MIU MIU ballerina style (available at Farfetch) is one of my favorites. The muted shades suit my aesthetic perfectly. The ballerina style is oh so feminine, but the fur insole brings something new to this dated style, and the leather-buckled straps add a little edge.

After describing furry shoes and promoting the furry-feet style, I'm wondering - do your feet excessively sweat in fur shoes? AND imagine sweat coupled with fur - EWW! If and when I have an answer to this question, I'll get back to you..

I love designer clothes and accessories, and even though I can't afford to fill my closet with the items I post on b.a.gorgie, I take inspiration from these styles. Great fashion starts at the top and trickles down until it reaches the masses. Following, mimicking and donning premier designer-inspired styles puts you at the forefront of fashion trends. Let these shoes inspire you, and find a similar style that fits within our budget.

Stirrups

November 06, 2017

When I was a little girl (way back in the eighties), I wore leggings with stirrups - of course, they're back in style in 2017! Like everything in fashion, trends just spin around and around throughout the years. Once and a while we get something new, but I'm not complaining about the return of stirrups. You can wear this style under over-the-knee boots, with booties, high heels..

Dsquared2 Ski Gaiter Bleached Jeans (available at Farfetch) are distressed, bleached and have adjustable straps (stirrups). These jeans are from the 'Ski' collection - not sure I'd wear denim on the slopes (denim soaks up water like crazy and gets super cold), but if you're an 'I'll be at the lodge' kinda girl, these are your stirrup jeans.

These Gucci Checked Stirrup Trousers (available at Farfetch) are flared - a different take on the 'typical' stirrup pant. These flared pants have a retro vibe. Wrap the stirrup outside your shoe, rather than tuck it inside - it's the new stirrup look.

I mentioned these Saint Laurent Stirrup Denim Leg Warmers (available at mytheresa.com) a few weeks ago. They are amazing. I'm almost always happy to be short and petite, but it's styles like these that make me wish I had some height and longer stems. These go all the way up to your high (high) thigh. LOVE!

Another 'ski' inspired style are these MSGM Stretch Denim Stirrup Jeans (available at Farfetch). These stretchy skinnies don lateral red bands that say "MSGM'. Perfect for a ski trip.

Rag & Bone Oivia High-waisted Stirrup Jeans (available at mytheresa.com) are basic and cool. The light indigo shade and high-waist are as old as the stirrup style. The jeans are loose fitting, and add length to your legs.

These Golden Goose Deluxe Brand Dele Metallic Stirrup Trousers (available at mytheresa.com) are super fun. The metallic purple material makes me think disco. These pants can take you from day to night and look nice paired with pumps. AGAIN, take a modern approach to the stirrup style and wrap the straps outside your shoe.

The Shopper

October 30, 2017

I'm not the kinda girl that lugs around everything but the kitchen sink. SO, totes are not my thing. BUT I need a large tote for travel. As hard as I try, I'm never gonna fit all my stuff in a carry-on suitcase for a weekend getaway. A shopper is big enough to carry liquids, small handbags and maybe a pair of shoes on my shoulder. It's gotta be large enough to hold all my stuff, but still fit within the 'one personal item' category. Is it just me or are airline size restrictions getting smaller and smaller?

You may be asking what's the difference between a tote and a shopper. Honesty, I have no idea. I would like to say a shopper is larger (in most cases it is), BUT handbag styles are blurred these days - there are small totes, and huge clutches.. There's also shopper totes.

I feel like the brand Off-White is having a moment. Admittedly, I'm a little obsessed. This Off-White leather tote (available at mytheresa.com) isn't being enough for my travel needs, but I could find a reason to carry it!

This Prada shearling shopper (available at mytheresa.com) is everything I love - furry, pink, and dons fluffy pompoms. AND it's big enough to hold my weekend getaway bags and shoes. This furry shopper is kinda loud, but who cares. Over-the-top handbags add a little something to an otherwise muted wardrobe. This shearling shopper is also available in yellow and brown hues, with orange pompoms.

This Dolce & Gabbana Beatrice fur shopper (available at mytheresa.com) is not my personal style (not a fan of black), but it's huge and perfect for those "I got a lot of s**t to lug around' days. The other side says LVE in white and red.

Yes, I'm crushing on Prada handbags these days.. I mentioned this Prada fur shopper (available at mytheresa.com) a few weeks ago. It's available in rose with red pompoms and white with blue and green pompoms. This shopper is huge and isn't structured, so you can stuff a lot of everything here.

These shopper styles may be al little out of your budget (mine too), but they're inspiring and a girl can dream..

My Must-Haves

October 16, 2017

This Prada knitted crochet bralette (available at Farfetch) would look great over a fitted t-shit, or by itself and paired with a super-high waist bottom. The contrasting red stitching over the gray virgin wool is a nice Fall look (even though it's a wool bralette). I couldn't wear this, cause I'm a bit top-heavy, but I encourage crop-top worthy bodies to don this amazing Prada bralette.

The sock-style boot is super-trending this season. Many brands have one or more versions of this boot. The Fendi sandal-shaped boots (available at Farfetch) are unique, in that it literally looks like your wearing socks inside your sandals. I really like these. I've only seen this style in black and red - I'd prefer a different color - maybe gray over beige.

I HAVE TO HAVE this Prada fur shopper (available at mytheresa.com). I've been searching for a large tote for a long time. I need something big to travel with, so I can carry all my little handbags and maybe a pair of shoes with me on the plane. I can never fit into a carry-on alone. This bag was meant for me. It's furry, pastel-pink and has a hook for pompoms, so you can accessorize your bag. LOVE.

I'm addicted to Chloé sunglasses. The vintage style of these Chloé aviator glasses (available at mytheresa.com) is all me. The peach-tinted frame will bring warmth to your complexion, and the pale lens will show off your eyes. These are not your typical aviator-style, but more of a retro look. HAVE TO HAVE..

I have a pair of these sock-like Fendi boots in beige and absolutely love them. They are surprisingly comfortable and look great with dresses, rolled-up denim, and 'nice' sweatpants. This season I want these Fendi Rockoko boots in black-metallic stretch fabric (available at Fendi). The color is great for winter - I don't have to worry about them getting dirty during the cold season. The metallic will stand out and add to my otherwise muted outfits. AND I like the little pink stripes (I love pink).

These Saint Laurent boot-inspired stirrup denim leg warmers (available at mytheresa.com) are essentially waist-free jeans. I doubt my stems will fit into these retro leg warmers (I'm no model), but a girl can dream. The muted-gray shade is versatile and the stirrups are SO retro. I remember having stirrup leggings when I was a little girl. The structured denim and way-high, over-the-knee style may not be suited for my body type, but stirrups are on my must-have list this season.

My Must-Haves

September 13, 2017

When I saw these Alexander Wang Amelia slides (available at Farfetch) on the 2017 Spring/Summer runway, I wanted them in every color. After considering the material, comfort aspect and the fact that I had already purchased three pairs of slides from others brands, I opted not to buy them. The Fall/Winter version of these slides are velvet, and gorgeous maroon color, SO I think I might get these. The color is super-rich and perfect for Fall. This style is so unique, and slides are trending hard this year. LOVE!

If you're into fashion, you've seen this bag. The Chloé Nile cross-body bag (available at Farfetch) is a star this season. I really wanted the minaudière (super tiny style), but it sold out. I did however purchase the 'small' Nile cross-body bag and LOVE it. You can use the shoulder strap, carry the bag like a clutch, or hold it by the heavy gold-tone ring. It's small - I can however get my iPhone 6 Plus in there (and a few other things). This is my favorite bag of the season. Imma keep looking for the minaudière..

Off-White 'For Walking' white pumps (available at Farfetch) are so fun! I'm not a white shoe fan, but if they came in nude with white print, I would absolutely buy them. Off-White also has super-high, over-the-knee boots with 'For Walking' printed down the side.

Yeah, I'm obsessed with Chloé. Eveytime I create an 'I'm Coveting' post, this high-end French brand is always on my need-to-have list (at least once). These Chloé velvet laced booties (available at Farfetch) are everything. I love booties. I'll wear them with jeans, dresses and even joggers. I like the oversized laces on these booties and the chunky heal looks comfy. The older I get, the thicker and shorter my heels get!

Every few weeks I browse my favorite on-line shopping sites to see what's new and trending. Burgundy'ish' tones are dominant this season (I think they usually are in fall). I'm not an orange fan, but the bright orange lining in this jacket is a nice contrast to the rich burgundy (I wouldn't reverse the jacket and don bright orange). This Unravel reversible cropped down jacket (available at mytheresa.com) is perfect for transitioning from Fall to Winter. It's cropped, so not too overwhelming, but down-filled, so it's warm. It's made of water-repellent and water-resistant fabric and the ribbed cuffs lock in heat. I WANT!

I HAVE TO HAVE this Prada feather-trimmed wool scarf (available at mytheresa.com). I like cream-colored scarves - cream shades brighten up an otherwise darker Winter wardrobe. This scarf has a little burgundy (like that), and the feather-embellishment is everything! I like that the feathers are only on one end. I need this - hint hint (you know who I'm hinting at)..

Bag Straps

July 10, 2017

Not sure who launched this fashion trend, but good on ya! Handbag accessories have been around a while - bag charms, mini bags attached to larger bags.. and while mismatched straps may not be new, it's mainstream presence is definitely a must-have in the fashion scene these days. I was first introduced to bag straps at Fendi in New York. There were so many designs, and each strap gave your bag a unique look. Of course, Fendi (my favorite accessory brand) exaggerates each strap with huge geometrical flowers, shapes and colors. AMAZING! Considering the detail and unique designs, the high ticket is definitely warranted (at Fendi).

Premiere designers aren't the only ones launching bag straps. Many contemporary (and less expensive) brands have incorporated this trend in their lineup. You don't have to have a premier designer bag to elevate your arm candy - a limited edition bag strap will do..

Pictured here:  Fendi Strap You - shoulder strap with blue and macro flowers (Fendi), Prada feather-trimmed shoulder strap (mytheresa.com), Prada leather-embellished canvas shoulder strap (Farfetch), Fendi Mini Strap You - short shoulder strap with multicolored leather (Fendi), Alexander Wang Studded Guitar Bag Strap (Farfetch), AND MY FAVORITE - Fendi Strap You - floral ribbon leather shoulder strap (mytheresa.com)

My Must-Haves

October 27, 2016

My on-going, never-ending wish list may be a little outta my reach (and budget), but a girl can dream..

The Chanel Vintage Extra Large Terry Backpack is the perfect travel bag. Large enough to pack the extras that wouldn't fit in your suitcase, it's chic, makes a statement and it's SOLD OUT! That's a good thing, cause I'd be tempted to break the bank for that one.

My Tibi Cecil Loafers in navy velvet are on the way. Loafers are a great Fall shoe - This season Tibi loafers are backless or fold at the back, exposing your heel. LOVE!

I need a new pair of neutral pumps to go with my endless pile of denim. These Gianvito Rossi Femi pumps are at the top of my 'must have' list (available at FARFETCH).

I recently purchased a few Laura Mercier products and love them! I want more.. Special edition Laura Mercier The Iconics boxed gift set has five full-size products and seven deluxe size products. This set is perfect for anyone who wants to dabble in the premium cosmetic brand and enjoy twelve of Laura Mercier's favorite products.

I'm a huge fan of blogger Aimee Song (Song of Style) and when I saw her wear these SJYP distressed crop jeans (I'm a distressed denim kinda girl), I HAD TO HAVE!

The Eva mohair fabric clutch by MIU MIU (available at mytheresa.com) meets all of my favorite things about a bag - fury, pink, and is large enough to hold my iPhone 6 Plus.

Trend: Espadrilles

May 18, 2016

The plaited fibre sole defines the Espadrille, a summer must-have this season. This long-time Spring/Summer favorite is taking on a new identity in 2016 and showcasing innovative, fun designs.

Espadrilles are a given during the summer and embellished espadrilles are even better. I love the tassels on Aquazurra's pale yellow espadrilles (pictured here). I purchased a pair of Chloé espadrille wedge sandals (kinda like the ones pictured here), and while I'm nervous to balance on 5 inches of fibre sole, I can't wait to wear them.

Espadrille sneakers are having a big fashion moment and I want them all! Sneakers have been dominating our looks for many seasons and combining these two shoe designs is genius. The fibre sole or in the case of Alexander Wang's sneaker espadrilles with a fibre toe-cap, adds a freshness to the sneaker and brings the long-time favorite shoe into summer. You can wear the sneaker espadrille with tailored pants, joggers, dresses, and basically anything in your closet. The espadrille sneaker is cool, chic and on-trend.

Fur or Faux?

November 27, 2015

The cold weather has put me in a fur or faux kinda mood. Admittedly, I'm addicted to soft, furry things (real and faux). While some of my favorite apparel and accessories this season are fur, I often opt for a less expensive faux version. Everything is fur or faux this winter; from coats to gilets and bags to shoes, you can don this trend just about anywhere! I especially love little fur details on boots and shoes - it's unexpected and fun. I'm also partial to neutral tones that lighten up an otherwise dark season for apparel. Here's a montage of fur and faux items to inspire your fashion choices this winter.

Pictured here: (available at NET-A-PORTER) Fendi Peekaboo shearling tote, Zara faux fur stole, ear muffs and snood, (available at Mytheresa) Stella McCartney faux fur gilet, Mango faux fur coat, Fendi fur bag charm, (available at NET-A-PORTER) Stella McCartney faux fur tote - available in two sizes.
